The start of year 1998 has been a good one.

In January we leardned that Multi Ch Almerak Pipers Dream had become top progeny dog in Finland in 1997. Among his succesfull children in Finland I would like to mention the following dogs:
Goldensmile Essence Itself
Int&Fin&Est Ch Baltic W-98 Hoyden Rolls Royce
Int&Fin&Est Ch Baltic W-98 Karvin Lili Marleen
Fin Ch Karvin Tacchini
Fin Ch Karvin Testarossa
Fin Ch Karvin Tirlittan
Fin Ch Luckyflames Chim Chiminey
Kultatuulen Status Quo
Sentimentals Chansonette

Karvin became top breeder in Finland in 1997 for the second consecutive year. This is thanks to all the owners of Karvin goldens who have been so active in 1997.

Karvin Karelian Glory & Karvin Lady Las Vegas

At our first show which was Turku International Winter Dog Show we had succes with our girls. The bitches were judged by Mrs Pat Holmes. Best bitch was Karvin Karelian Glory who also won the CACIB. Second in best bitch class was Karvin Lady Las Vegas (Multi Ch Standfast Angus ex. Karvin Casablanca). Vegas got her second C.C. from junior class. According to the Finnish Kennel Club rules, she can't get her third C.C. before she is 24 months of age. So now she will have to wait for another year!

The following weekend was lucky for Hanna Kaskelma's Karvin Tirlittan. She was best bitch at Hamina international dog show under Mr Eivind Mjaerum from Norway. She got her thrid C.C. and the CACIB which made her up.

The first Sunday in February we showed in Lahti under a new Finnish golden retriever judge called Mr Harri Lehkonen. BOB-puppy was our young boy, 7-month old Lislone Garbank Laplander. He was also BIS 2 puppy. BOS puppy was Karvin Uh La La La (Gill's Garfield ex. Karvin Greta Garbo). Both puppies were at their first show! BOB, BIG and Best In show was Fin Ch Kerrien Paperback Writer. Second in best dog class was Goldensmile Gangleader (Karvin Spumante ex. Goldensmile Except The Best ) who got his third C.C. and became a Finnish Champion. Gangleader is Spumante's first champion progeny, Best bitch winning her first C.C. was Karvin Lorelei Lee (Multi Ch Standfast Angus ex. Karvin Casablanca). She was shown for the first time in junior class! The day was crowned by our breeders group winning Best In Show!

Karvin breeders group won at The World Winner Show. The dogs in the group are (from left to right) Karvin Testarossa, K. Pentagon, K. Basic Instinct and K. Fanfar.

Ch Almerak Pipers Dream had a good day at Pori International Dog Show at the end of July when his progeny group won Best In Show!

In August Karvin Karelian Glory (Ch Kerrien Paperback Writer ex. Karvin Paloma O'Blanca) won her third C.C. at her third outing in open class. She also won the CACIB (her second!) and BOS at the International show in Nurmijärvi under the Finnish judge Mrs Ritva Raita.

We haven't been showing that much during the summer months. The dogs have enjoyed beeing trained for qualifying tests and some even for the working test. The qualifying/working test season finishes in Finland already at the beginning of October so there isn't much time left.....

On the picture Fin Ch Linchael Ravel, 13 years and Fin Ch Kerrien Raleigh "struggling" for the same favourite twig.

Last weekend was a very good one at the working test side. It seems as if the work done has been worthwhile! Four dogs bred or owned by us qualified. Karvin Flitiga Lisa (litter sister to Fina Finlandia and Fröken Fanny) qualified with "excellent grades". Karvin Quaint Miracle (Kerrien Paperback Writer ex. Karvin Jambalaya) who is owned by Anne Virtanen was the second one to qualify. She is only 12 months old. Elina Vuokila's Karvin Rio Ramanda (Gunhills Dalbury ex. Festival's Five Five) was the youngest one of them all, only nine months old. (A dog can be entered to this at the age of eight months) Our just ten month old Ipcress Out of The Blue (Ipcress Sea Bird ex. Lindjan Tiddly Wink of Ipcress) was the fourth of this clever lot of "babies". Two weeks ago Karvin Lady Las Vegas qualified. She was handled by our Austrian guest and "dog trainer" Christopher Orthacker who himself is only 16 years old!

A summer view from Nauvo, south of Finland. Ipcress Out Of The Blue, Karvin Lady Las Vegas and New Dayton v.d. Beerse Hoeve looking at an exciting wakeboarding scene.....

Fin Obedience&Tracking Ch Karvin Bellas Garcia thrilled us all by showing great talants in yet another new scill .....with some good luck she can perhaps add a third title on her merit list already next year?

On the photo Fin Ch Kerrien Raleigh at the Golden Special in August where he was second in best dog class. Raleigh is currently visiting Lena Stenius and her family in Sweden.

Our young charmer Respons Zodiak-Ten has had a few outings in the showring during the late summer and autumn. He has won his class every time, two times he has been Best puppy In show and once BOS puppy.

Two of Ch Almerak Piper's Dream's progeny became international champions at the same show in Tallin in October! Congratulations to Paula Stam-Ekblom's Int&Fin&Est Ch Baltic W-98 Hoyden Rolls Royce and Timo & Susanna Lindqvist's Int&Fin&Est Ch Baltic W-98 Karvin Lili Marleen.

In 1998 we sadly lost three of our veterans, Fin Ch Linchael Ravel, Fin Ch Lovehayne Darter and Lislone Freelance. These great personalities are all greatly missed by us. We can still imagine them lying on their favourite places in the garden....next to the outdoor kitchen or waiting for their titbits outside the sauna.... or carrying a twig in hope to swap it for a piece of bread. Fredy, Danny and Crosby can't be replaced by anyone but we are happy to have their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with us.
